Configure Project Scopes
Configuring project scopes in ProjectStream 365 defines divisions of work that will be used for estimating, budgeting, scheduling, resource planning, and project execution. ProjectStream 365 allows for multiple scopes of work to be estimated on the same proposal. Well-structured scopes help organize project costs, track progress, assign responsibility, and improve reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
β Goal
Create and manage project scopes that define the major work areas, phases, or disciplines within a project. Project scopes provide the foundation for estimating, budgeting, production planning, and project tracking.
π When to Use
Configure project scopes when a new proposal, project, or estimate is being prepared and the project work needs to be organized into manageable components.
Use project scopes to:
- Organize project work into logical phases or disciplines
- Structure estimates and budgets
- Improve cost tracking and reporting
- Assign responsibility for specific work areas
- Support production planning and scheduling
- Standardize project setup across similar projects
- Track performance by scope throughout the project lifecycle
πΆββ‘οΈ Step-By-Step Guide
π Procedure
1. Navigate to Projects

2. Select Open Proposals view

3. Select a proposal

4. Click Scopes tab

5. Click New Project Scope

6. Select a Scope

7. Enter the dates, Template Type, PM and Estimator details

8. Click Save and Close

9. Click Save & Close

β Result
After saving the configuration:
- Project scopes are established for the project.
- Estimates can be organized by scope.
- Budgets and costs can be tracked at the scope level.
- Resources and production activities can be planned using the defined scope structure.
- Project reporting can be summarized by scope and phase.
π‘ Tips
- Create scopes that reflect how the project will be estimated and managed.
- Keep scope names clear and standardized across projects.
- Avoid creating unnecessary scope levels that add complexity.
- Use consistent scope structures for similar project types to improve reporting.
- Review scopes before beginning estimating activities to ensure all work is represented.
- Update scope definitions early in the project lifecycle to minimize downstream rework.

π§ What Happens Next?
Once project scopes have been configured, estimators can begin developing project estimates, budgets can be established for each scope, and project teams can use the scope structure to support scheduling, resource planning, production management, and project reporting.
